Free Painting Quote Pre-Send Checklist

Before the quote leaves your inbox, run these 10 checks.

This mini checklist is designed for painting contractors who want one last commercial review without turning estimating into more admin.

1. Scope

Have you listed the actual surfaces included — not just the rooms or broad work area?

2. Preparation

Does the preparation allowance match the substrate condition you observed or were given?

3. Repairs

Are included repairs defined, and are uncertain or additional repairs dealt with clearly?

4. Access

Have you allowed for the real access method, relocation time and any project-specific plant?

5. Coating system

Are primers, sealers, undercoats and finish coats accounted for where required?

6. Labour

Do the hours include setup, protection, preparation, application, movement, cleanup and touch-ups — not just painting time?

7. Materials and direct costs

Have you included practical material usage, consumables, subcontractors, plant and other job-specific direct costs?

8. Assumptions and exclusions

Is anything the price relies on written down clearly enough for the customer and your supervisor to understand?

9. Variation triggers

Can you identify the likely changes — extra repairs, added surfaces, colour changes, extra coats, changed access or staging — against a clear original baseline?

10. Margin

After all direct job costs, does the gross margin still match the commercial decision you intended to make?
